The patient is a 9 year old boy, third grade student in a regular school with a motor speech disorder (Dyspraxia of speech). His cognitive abilities are within normal range.
The child is 14 years old, diagnosed with severe general motor apraxia, severe Apraxia of speech and attention deficits (Neurological diagnosis). He is learning in a special small class in a regular school. In his class there are 10 students with learning disabilities.
Results showed reduced volume, differentiation between high and low pitch and improved control over word lengths.
Purpose: Children diagnosed with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) often acquire sounds but have difficulties in putting them together and forming words. This case study deals with the therapeutic challenges and examines a technique called Initial Phoneme Cue (IPC).
